Charge Controllers

Charge controllers protect batteries from overcharge and/or discharge, which can shorten their lives. The controller measures the battery voltage, which rises as the battery state of charge increases. At a pre-set voltage, which is defined according to the type of batteries and the ambient temperature, the contoller will stop the charging of the battery. That function called HVD (High Voltage Disconnect). It will resume charging only after the battery voltage will drop again. At some pre-set lower voltage, the regulator allows the charging to resume. Another function which is common in some controllers, is called LVD (Low Voltage Disconnect), and disconnects the load when the battery voltage drop bellow a "risky" stage. Hide
